2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

A refundable first-time homebuyer tax credit of up to $8,000 is the centerpiece of housing incentives found in the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The new credit is designed to boost sales in the nation’s sagging housing market by offering a strong incentive to first-time homebuyers. Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association of Realtors, predicts 300,000 home purchases will be made in 2009 as a result of the tax credit. (more…)

Houston Home Sales Show Continued Strengthening in June

HOUSTON — (July 21, 2009) — Sales of single-family homes for the greater Houston area continued to improve in June, with the highest volume recorded since August 2008 and the highest median price in history. This comes despite a year-over-year decline in overall property sales of 15.0 percent and 13.5 percent for single-family homes, according to new monthly data compiled by the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR).
